Biography

 

 

Phillip Manuel began his career at age eleven. "That was the first time I got paid to sing-$50," said Phillip and he has never looked back. 

 

His vocal range is phenomenal. The Boston Globe described his voice as "...one with great range and power." Manuel's melodically descriptive voice has been heard from Trinidad to Istanbul, from Paris to San Sebastian. The Los Angeles Times writes, "He delivered a high-level dynamic charge. It was exhilarating, spontaneous, and straight ahead jazz."

 

By no means is Phillip Manuel a newcomer to the music industry. The in-demand vocalist has recorded and performed with a host of talented singers, including Patti LaBell, Aaron Neville, Dr. John, Phyllis Hyman, Jon Faddis, Nicholas Payton, Jon Hendricks, and many more. Phillip Manuel's body of work includes a soundtrack for a motion picture and five other discs including his critically acclaimed Love Happened to Me on the MAXJAZZ label. His voice, both singing and speaking, can be heard on countless local and regional commercials.

 

An accomplished songwriter, Phillip Manuel has penned Honeycomb Blues for the USA made for TV movie Color of Courage, starring Lyn Whitfield and Linda Hamilton. He wrote much of the material on his latest CD simply called, PM. A versatile performer, Phillip Manuel has also been recognized for his work as an actor. He was nominated for a Big Easy Award for Best Actor for an amazing performance in Williams and Walker, a musical drama about the life of a vaudevillian Bert Williams. Phillip Manuel also starred in the bebop opera Lulu, featuring the libretto of McArthur Award Winner Lee Breuer and the music of Jon Faddis.

Phillip Manuel regularly performs with the Louisiana Philharmonic and the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestras. He has also been featured with the Tulsa Oklahoma Philharmonic and the Lexington Kentucky Philharmonic Orchestras.
